5 More Minutes

AI Short Film

5 More Minutes is a short film about the places our minds return to when we're given a little more time. After snoozing his alarm, Benjamin slips into a dream that takes him through the streets of London and back to a childhood football pitch, where he comes face to face with a younger version of himself.

The film explores nostalgia and the strange comfort of returning to a moment that no longer exists, all within the five minutes between one alarm and the next.

The Idea

The Idea

The story started with something ordinary: pressing snooze and asking for five more minutes. I wanted those five minutes to become much bigger inside Benjamin's head, turning a small everyday decision into a journey through memory. Football became the connection to childhood, with the dream gradually leading him towards a younger version of himself.

The Approach

The Approach

I wanted the dream to feel believable rather than obviously fantastical. The transition happens without a dramatic visual effect; Benjamin simply leaves his room and begins moving through a warmer, quieter version of London. As he gets closer to the park, the reason for the journey slowly becomes clear. Generative AI was used to build the characters, locations and individual scenes while keeping Benjamin recognisable across different environments and maintaining the relationship between his adult and childhood selves. The final story was shaped through shot selection, pacing, editing, sound and music, with the dream given a warmer visual tone than the bedroom scenes that surround it.

The Ending

The Ending

Benjamin wakes to find that only five minutes have passed. Returning to the same bedroom and alarm clock brings the film back to where it started, revealing that the entire journey existed within the small amount of time he asked for at the beginning.
